AI and Cyber Security: Understanding the Opportunities and Risks

AI capability is developing at breakneck speed, and this year, we have seen extraordinary advances in AI’s ability to enhance business productivity in a manner that we have never seen before.

This capability has also benefited cyber criminals and their ability to breach our computer systems using AI enabled tools, that present threats that are much harder for us to repel.

Recently, OpenAI’s test agents turned a software repository into a message board to share hacking methods. They bypassed their sandbox restrictions, reached the internet and breached Hugging Face’s systems, all while trying to find answers to a test. These agents knew they were cheating and went ahead and did it anyway.

The real challenge for business leaders isn’t the hype, it’s figuring out how to adopt these tools and keep them under control while doing so.

In this series, we cut through the noise and look at practical AI and cyber security. No buzzwords, just the real-world trade-offs: what data you're exposing, where the boundaries need to sit, and how to keep sensible human oversight in place before handing over the keys.

Every organisation has different ground rules and risk tolerances. Have a listen, see how the concepts fit your own environment, and if you'd like to talk through how this applies to your systems, let's have a chat.
